Lecture content:
Generative design is a rule-based process that uses mechanical devices, biological processes, computer programs, or other systems to create designs. Algorithmic processes replace manual processing in this process. The creative effort lies in the design and implementation of the rule sets and the evaluation of the results. The historical background and the pioneers of generative form generation (Buckminster Fuller, Otto Frei, and others) are introduced in the introductory lecture block, and a common vision is defined in the subsequent brainstorming session. The central part of the course is a multi-day workshop: blocked for two or three days, we focus on the collaborative exploration of generative forms: analog experiments are conducted and transformed into digital reproductions. This will include the use of programming languages optimized for generative design in a live performance context. This enables new approaches, even for those who do not yet have programming skills. All participants contribute with their special skills to a multidisciplinary exploration of the subject area. Through the intense interpersonal interaction during the workshop, new ideas and approaches emerge that will manifest themselves in finished generative designs that will also be translated into sound forms. In the final part of the course, work results will be documented and presented. Translated with www.DeepL.com/Translator (free version)

It is also about how different media influence and interact with each other and about the search for the use of interactions for new expressive possibilities within current technologies. The ILV will cover a range of topics, including a brief outline and reflection on well-known performance practices and performances, the use of technology in contemporary performance, audience engagement, and ethical considerations for the use of technology in performance (keyword: "accessibility"). Through lectures, discussions, and hands-on exercises such as "prototyping," new ideas and approaches will be found that can be applied to students' projects. Students will be encouraged to experiment with various forms of current technologies -including audio and video devices, interactive installations, and digital interfaces.
