Erasmus+ short mobility with a virtual component
Erasmus+ Short Term Mobilities are mobilities that last a minimum of 5 and a maximum of 30 days and include a documentable virtual component (e.g. an online workshop). This virtual part can take place before, during or after the physical mobility.
Erasmus+ distinguishes between 2 forms of short mobility:
- BIP (Blended Intensive Programs) : BIPs are organized within the framework of a concrete project of at least 3 partner universities. If you are interested, please contact the International Academic Advisor of your department to find out whether it is currently possible to participate in a BIP.
- Individual short mobilities with a virtual component, especially for students who are unable to complete a long-term mobility.
In both cases, only the days of physical presence at the partner institution are eligible for funding. Learning Agreements (proof of at least 3 ECTS) and Transcripts of Records are also mandatory for short mobilities.
BEFORE the Short Term Mobility (Studium)
If you are interested, please always contact the International Academic Advisor of your department first to find out whether there is currently an opportunity to participate in a BIP!
If your participation in the BIP has been approved and the associated mobility is supported by Erasmus+ funds, you will find the exact procedure outlined below.
If you are interested, please always contact the International Academic Advisor of your department first to find out whether there is currently an opportunity to participate in a BIP!
Under certain conditions, short mobilities abroad that are not part of a Blended Intensive Program can also be funded. However, a documentable virtual component must also be included in this case!
If you are interested in an offer from a partner university, please contact the International Academic Advisor of your department to find out whether participation is possible and can be documented and recognized in a Learning Agreement.
However, funding (as so-called “blended short-term mobility”) is only possible in such a case for students who cannot complete long-term mobility for good reason (e.g. working students).
In this case, the administrative procedure and the funding amounts are identical to those for mobilities within the framework of a BIP.
- Grant agreement: The International Office will create a grant agreement, which must be signed in advance. It must be communicated in advance whether a top-up (“green travel” and/or “fewer opportunities” - information on this can be found below) will be applied for! In this case, additional documents or evidence must be submitted in advance and/or afterwards.
- Learning Agreement (LA): Learning Agreements are created and managed digitally via the Online Learning Agreement (OLA) platform. The FH Salzburg provides instructions for this, in which all steps necessary for the successful creation and conclusion of an OLA are described in detail, from registration and entry of the courses to the signature process. It also contains important instructions for use. Click here for the instructions. Please read these instructions carefully and use them to create your OLA. We ask for your understanding that your IAA or the Outgoing Coordinator will be available to answer individual questions that have not already been answered in these instructions.
- Language test via Online Linguistic Support (OLS): From a stay of 14 days, the online language assessment is mandatory before your stay abroad (exception: mother tongue) and relates to the language of instruction at the host university. You will receive an e-mail with the access data for the OLS portal in good time. In addition, a free and voluntary language course is available to you in the OLS portal. Here you can choose between the working language and the national language.
- Special case “blended short-term mobilities”: Funding as a so-called “blended short-term mobility” is only possible for students who are unable to complete a long-term mobility for justified reasons (e.g. working students), therefore an affidavit must be submitted.
There is no legal entitlement to Erasmus+ funding! The award is tied to the budget availability per academic year.
The calculation is based up the exact days listed as the start and end date of your program.
Duration of your “in-person” mobility activity | Daily Grant amount in EURO (all programs und partner countries) |
---|---|
5 - 14 days | 79 |
15 - 30 days | 56 |
The grants can only be applied to the physical part of a mobility activity!
Top-up Green travel (based on the specifications from the 2023 project)
A one-off top-up of EUR 50 is awarded for travel by environmentally friendly means of transport. If necessary, additional travel days (per diem - see above) can be approved.
Travel cost support (currently based on the specifications from the 2023 project)
Students with fewer opportunities (see the next question for the exact details about this) and recipients of the Austrian study grant receive travel cost support in addition to the above-mentioned grant (calculation depending on distance band - see table below). The lump sum for travel by environmentally friendly means of transport is higher. As a general rule, participants who travel 500 km or less must do so by low-emission means of transport (low-emission travel includes: bus, train, boat, ferry, carpool (two or more people)).
Distance | enviromentally friendly travel | non-environmentally friendly travel |
10-99 km | 23 EUR | 23 EUR |
100-499 km | 210 EUR | 180 EUR |
500-1999 km | 320 EUR | 275 EUR |
2000-2999 km | 410 EUR | 360 EUR |
3000-3999 km | 610 EUR | 530 EUR |
4000-7999 km | 820 EUR | 820 EUR |
8000 km oder mehr | 1500 EUR | 1500 EUR |
ATTENTION: A retroactive application for funding is not possible!
In the new Erasmus+ Program period 2021/27 there is additional funding - so called Top-ups - for:
- students with disabilities
- students with chronic illness (physical or mental), if there are increased financial expenditures during the stay abroad (compared to the stay in the home country).
- students with a child or children, who bring their child(ren) to participate in the Erasmus+ stay abroad.
If you meet the above critea, you can apply for the top-up called: “Fewer Opportunities”.
Duration of the “in-person” Erasmus+ Mobility activity | One-Time Top-up in Euro (all Programs and Partner Countries) |
---|---|
5 - 14 Days | 100 |
15 - 30 Days | 150 |
The following documents can be used as proof for the top-up:
- in the case of disability: disability pass or other proof
- in the case of chronic illness: medical certificate and proof of the additional costs incurred compared to the stay in the sending country, e.g. sworn declaration by the student or other documents proving the additional costs
- for students who are taking their child or children with them: Birth certificate, proof of custody if applicable, proof of the child/children's stay in the host country
ATTENTION: It is not possible to apply for the top-up retroactively! The top-up can only be applied for one of the above-mentioned categories; it is not possible to add them together.
As a rule, you will receive 80% of the funding amount before the mobility - provided you have a signed grant agreement and a learning agreement.
The remaining 20% will be paid out after successful completion of the mobility and completion of the mandatory EU survey.
For stays longer than of 14 days, the online language assessment is mandatory before your stay abroad (exception: native language) and refers to the working language of your internship position/teaching language of the host university. You will receive an e-mail with the access data for the OLS Portal with plenty ot time to complete the task.
In addition, a free and voluntary language course is available to you in the OLS portal. Here you can choose between the working language and the national language.
Insurance cover is mandatory for all stays abroad.
Important: It is your responsibility to ensure that you have adequate international insurance coverage (accident, liability and health insurance) for the entire duration of your stay abroad. Private supplementary insurance is recommended.
ÖH fee = accident and liability insurance
Accident and liability insurance is generally covered with the payment of the ÖH fee. The insurance coverage only applies to accidents or damage during your studies (on the host university compus and also on the way there). Accidents or damages that occur during your free time are not included.
Further information on the ÖH contribution can be found on the ÖH website.
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
The European Health Insurance Card offers health insurance in all EU/EEA countries (including Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Switzerland and Serbia). You will find this on the back of your e-card. Contact the customer service of the Austrian Health Insurance Fund (ÖGK) to find out about insurance cover in your host country.
The validity of the card must be checked before the start of the stay abroad. All fields on the back of the e-card should be completed in full. If you do not have a valid health insurance card, contact your health insurance provider before you travel. Ask your host institution in advance whether special insurance is recommended for your stay abroad.
AFTER the short term mobility (Study)
The following documents must be sent to the International Office after the mobility:
- Transcript of Records (proof of at least 3 ECTS)
- Confirmation of Stay (only necessary if the exact dates of the mobility are not shown in the Transcript of Records)
- if applicable: receipts / tickets for green travel top-up (otherwise a refund is necessary)
When your mobility is completed, you will receive an automatic email with a link to a EU Survey It is required that you complete this survey!
