Sustainability is an important topic for the FH Salzburg. The areas in which sustainability plays a role are as diverse as the term itself - be it in teaching, research, infrastructure, social or student engagement or in university operations.
Giving more attention to the topic of sustainability is an important concern of the FH Salzburg. FH Managing Director Dominik Engel: "As a university, we have a special social mission. We stand for developing sustainable solutions and being a source of inspiration. By anchoring the topic of sustainability in our range of courses, we want to create the basis for this and sensitise and enable our students to make contributions in the future."
"There is already a lot that is being done in the area of sustainability at our university; now it is a matter of highlighting the initiatives and bundling the ideas," explains Daniela Molzbichler, Sustainability Officer at the FH Salzburg. One of the goals of her work is therefore to communicate existing activities, to anchor the topic of sustainability more firmly at the FH and to further promote networking.
The colleague is looking forward to exchanges and suggestions on these topics.

What is the FH Salzburg doing in terms of sustainability?
Sustainability or sustainable development means development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the satisfaction of the needs of future generations [Brundtland Report]. The cornerstones for this are: ecological, economic and social sustainability as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) developed from them. For us as a university, the topic of sustainability in the core tasks of teaching, research and transfer is indispensable and should continue to be expanded.
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
In September 2015, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development was adopted at a UN summit in New York. It consists of a total of 17 goals for joint sustainable development: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Ecological, social and economic sustainability are equally weighted and jointly pursued here. It should be emphasised that the 17 goals are not disconnected from each other, but are interwoven.
In the meantime, the SDGs are increasingly becoming an integral part of the three missions of teaching, research and transfer at the university level in Austria. On the part of the universities, there is a stronger orientation towards the SDGs, for example the Uninetz or the Alliance of Sustainable Universities. In the area of research funding, such as the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the SDGs are also increasingly being included, to name just a few examples.
