Degree Programme

For Whom?

Innovative methods for enhancing competency

The postgraduate course Salutophysiology for Midwives is intended for experienced midwives, who wish to learn an advanced pattern of midwife observations and diagnosis through practical salutogenesis, which enables new, theory-based midwife interventions and spheres of action.
The course content is such that it offers midwives occupying leading as well as teaching positions innovative ways of enhancing their competency.

Dynamics of physiological systems

  • Psycho-neuro-endocrinology
  • Pillars of health
  • Adaptation systems
  • Circular assessment
  • Hormone system
  • Sense of coherence and coping
  • Clinical reasoning

In-depth physiological knowledge and a dynamic understanding of the interaction between physiological systems give you a completely new insight into midwifery and infant care – moving away from risk search and combating symptoms towards identifying and activating available resources, requirements and competencies.

This is based on the detailed knowledge of a mother’s hormone system, neurovegetative system, the fetoplacental system or of the newborn, and the ecosystem in every phase – pregnancy, child birth and exogestation.
Moreover, a multi-layered observation pattern facilitates case-specific diagnosis and the resulting differentiated intervention at different levels – physical, behavioural and emotional – to strengthen the physiological processes, thereby strengthening the mother and the child. This leads to revolutionary, advanced midwife competencies.

Adult education and consulting

  • Complete information
  • Problem-solving: individually and as part of a group
  • Empathic capabilities
  • Culture versus nature
  • Symmetric communication
  • Circular, complete didactics
  • Man and woman empowerment

In the Masters course, you will learn to build selective professional relations through positive communication. The course opens up a therapeutic space, where an empathetic encounter is possible – going beyond assumptions and ideologies.

Your work focuses on mothers and their children, or the parents. You team up with them and learn to design an individual care plan for them. A salutogenetic case history and problem-solving form the starting point for this. The care plan dynamically accompanies the care process, and a decision schema helps parents make informed choices and be self-assured at all times.

Problem-solving teaches you to manage groups and discuss complex topics, find possible approaches to resolve an issue and to prepare individual solutions.

Complete information is a focussed method for deepening and strengthening the knowledge base through information at a rational level as well as through gestures, pictures, symbols and bodywork.

Scientific research

  • Techniques for scientific research
  • Possibilities and limitations of research methods
  • Qualitative and quantitative research designs
  • Planning and execution of research work
  • Contextual history of midwives
  • Knowledge transfer from the history
  • Critical reflection on current midwifery practices

Another focus point of this postgraduate course is scientific research, especially the quantitative and qualitative research method as well as the presentation and publication of scientific work.

We aim to impart a deep-rooted understanding of scientific techniques. You learn to formulate research questions, select appropriate research designs, plan research steps, contribute your share in a project and structure the results and present them in a generally comprehensible manner. This prepares you to write publications in keeping with scientific standards, which emphasise your research competency as well as broaden the existing theory models in midwifery.

Additionally, with an insight into the history of midwifery, you can tackle the present day social structures and institutions with the required detachment.
