Midwifery studies in Salzburg
Midwives apply their sound medical knowledge and high social competency to assist the mother and child before, during and after birth. As experts on motherhood, they approach this topic from many perspectives. As a result, sociological and psychological concepts influence the training. Midwives deal with the challenge of meeting the safety requirements of present day medicine, which is based on scientific research.
They also take into account the uniqueness of every woman and her child and her fundamental right to have a natural, self-determined birth while safeguarding her individual needs. Midwives are experts in the field of regular, natural births and manage these independently. When there are visible deviations and complications, they take care of the woman and her child together with doctors.
Vocational training is given in SALK – non-profit clinics in Salzburg (Salzburger Landeskliniken) – as well as in hospitals in Braunau, Hallein, Schwarzach, Wels and Bad Reichenhall among other places.
