Description

Studying Forest Products Technology & Timber Construction in Salzburg

With their expertise in the technological, economic and planning areas, students are trained in the course Forest Products Technology & Timber Construction to use their specific competence on the material wood in all areas of timber and timber construction and related industries.

The in-depth study of the renewable resource wood qualifies graduates for specific tasks in this long-term available, sustainable and organically grown material. Thus they not only make a contribution to safeguarding and developing resources and jobs at home and abroad, but also to increased and intelligent use of renewable resources.

In addition to direct entry into professional life, it is also possible to embark with a master's and then PhD on a research or science career.

1st academic year: foundation studies

The first year of study includes the basics of natural sciences, technology, wood science and construction. In two project modules, the students practically implement their first wood technology and construction engineering tasks. Projects are offered which already give insight into the different directions of the study, in order to provide a decision guidance for the later choice of specialisation. In addition, basic economic content is taught.

2nd academic year: in-depth studies

The focus in the second year of study is on the acquisition of specific professional skills. In parallel, in-depth courses start in the areas of wood technology, wood construction as well as furniture construction and interior design. Before the start of the third semester, students choose one of the possible specialisations. Depending on the choice of specialisation, the knowledge acquired is incorporated into a construction, technology or furniture and interior design project. This project can subsequently serve as the basis for the 1st bachelor thesis.

In the 3rd or 4th semester, students have the opportunity to spend a semester at one of the many partner universities abroad.

3rd academic year: professionalization

Before the start of the fifth semester, students undertake a professional internship, which can be completed both in Austria and abroad, in order to prepare them optimally for their professional life. Here, students can put their acquired specialist knowledge into practice.

The subject-specific projects, which are already offered at the beginning of the fifth semester, can often be used as a basis for the 2nd bachelor thesis, which at the same time also forms the conclusion of the bachelor program. For this purpose, the programme provides projects in all fields of specialisation on the one hand, but on the other hand, the students' own project proposals can also be realized.
