Short film ‘Drip’ wins prestigious film award in New York

The educational film by MultiMediaArt students Lea Povacz and Hanna Chucholowius wins over international competition at the One Screen Short Film Festival.

The short film Drip has won the prize for Best Student Film at the renowned One Screen Short Film Festival in New York. The two filmmakers Lea Povacz and Hanna Chucholowius, students on the MultiMediaArt programme at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, were able to beat student productions from all over the world with their work.

The five-minute film deals with a topic that is often taboo: Vaginal discharge. ‘Every person with a vagina has discharge,’ the protagonist states right at the beginning - and goes on to explain what it looks like and what important function it fulfils in the body. The international jury praised the film for its successful combination of education, empathy and artistic expression.

‘When we first discovered discharge in our pants as young girls, we thought something was wrong with us. We felt insecure, as if we were sick, and ashamed,’ say the two directors. Many people have had similar experiences. Their goal: more visibility, awareness and acceptance of natural body processes.

The One Screen Short Film Festival is a globally respected platform that honours creativity and storytelling in short films from the advertising and film industry. Each year, submissions are received from over 45 countries. The fact that Drip was able to assert itself in this international competition underlines the relevance and quality of the film - and is a great honour.
