The federal government recently approved the expansion of university of applied sciences study places. Salzburg University of Applied Sciences will also benefit from this with 55 additional study places from 2025/26. During a visit to Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (SUAS), Federal Minister Polaschek presented the expansion together with Rector and Managing Director Dominik Engel.
The University of Applied Sciences Development and Financing Plan 2023/24 - 2025/26 provides for the expansion of federally funded UAS study places. Education, Science and Research Minister Martin Polaschek: ‘The universities of applied sciences are an indispensable pillar of our higher education system. I have therefore decided to undertake the largest expansion programme since the turn of the millennium. In a record expansion, 800 additional first-year university of applied sciences places will be allocated throughout Austria. 55 of these will go to Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, with a particular focus on social work and future fields in which we need specialists.’
Expansion at the university location Salzburg
Salzburg as a university location will also benefit in particular from the current expansion programme. 55 new study places in the fields of social work, digital social work and medical biology will be available from 2025/26.
SUAS Rector and Managing Director Dominik Engel welcomes the expansion and the positive further development of the UAS sector: ‘We stand for relevant content and a practice-oriented degree programme. The commitment to increase the number of study places is a sign of confidence in the quality of our education. We are very pleased to be able to train more students in the important fields of social work and life sciences at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. The expansion also shows the importance of our degree programmes - both for Salzburg as a location and for society.’ The expansion of undergraduate study places is a decisive step towards meeting the growing demand for well-trained specialists in the health and social care sector.
Expansion of the study programme: Social Work, Digital Social Work, Medical Biology
From the winter semester 2025/26, there will be an additional 25 beginner places on the Bachelor of Social Work programme at Salzburg University of Applied Sciences. The degree programme will then also be offered in full-time mode. Students will also have the opportunity to specialise in the new Digital Social Work focus area.
The existing teaching cooperation between FH Salzburg and Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS) in the Medical Biology degree programme is based on the interface between biology, medicine and technology. The approval of the ten additional study places confirms the relevance of the Master's programme in the field of health sciences and enables the expansion of the teaching cooperation into a Joint Master's.
