Ten years ago, the first Josef Ressel Research Center was established at the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, marking the beginning of a success story. Today, the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences proudly looks back on three Josef Ressel Centers, two of which are still active. These centers are not only distinguished by their substantial research, but they also serve as an "extra bit more" for the university: an ecosystem for exchange, networking, and collaboration. Institutionalizing this space for ideas further is the aim of the "Research Campus Schloss Urstein" (RCSU), which was officially inaugurated on July 10, 2023.
FH-Prof. Dr. Christian Neureiter
Director of the Josef Ressel Center for Dependable System of Systems Engineering“ anf of the Research Campus Schloss Urstein
"The Research Campus is intended to be a meeting space where employees, students, and corporate partners can collaborate easily. An inspiring environment where students, who perhaps want to delve a bit deeper, can work with 'professionals' and find a setting where they can develop themselves, try things out, and maybe even establish some initial contacts with the industry."
Interdisciplinary Orientation
First and foremost, the Urstein Castle Research Campus emerged from the JRZ DeSoS, which means that the team and topics are very much tied to the context of “systems engineering”. The further development is currently based on the newly designed study programs in the “Information Technologies and Digitalization” department. In the spirit of a shared apartment, the researchers also want to think more openly and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
Close collaboration between business and research
Until 2025, the RCSU is funded under the WISS2030 strategy by the State of Salzburg. Besides the state, the FH Salzburg itself and its sponsors, the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Labour, have also backed the project. The first corporate partners are also convinced by the idea: The partners of the JRZ DeSos (Robert Bosch GmbH, Siemens AG, Chargepoint, Geoconsult and Palfinger) are the key contributors, essentially forming the heart of the project on the ground floor of the castle. Additionally, new corporate partners believe in the concept of the research community and the associated enhancement of the location. These include Porsche Informatik, Salzburg AG, Liebherr, Georesearch Forschungsgesellschaft and the Förderverein ITS.
