This year's HAN Congress (Hospitality Association of Namibia) took place on 15 and 16 May under the motto "Co-Creation of a tourism training roadmap for Namibia". The congress brought together over 24 educational institutions and focused on the exchange of training opportunities in tourism. Tonderayi Prosper Mageza, a student in the Master's programme "Innovation & Management in Tourism", participated as speaker and co-presenter.
Namibia is not only known for its vast landscape, but also for the openness and friendliness of its people. In view of this, the promotion of locals through tourism education programmes is of great importance to the travel industry. According to the Hospitality Association of Namibia (HAN), the Namibian travel and hospitality sector has already recovered 80% from the effects of the pandemic by the end of 2022, and all indications are that pre-Corona figures can be achieved again this year. Therefore, strategies and concepts against the shortage of skilled workers, which is also prevalent in Namibia, are all the more important.
During his work at the "Tour and Safari Association of Namibia", Tonderayi Mageza, a student in the Master's programme "Innovation & Management in Tourism", has already worked together with HAN and now received an invitation to collaborate within the framework of the congress. As a speaker and co-presenter, he had the opportunity to apply the knowledge he had acquired at the UAS in a practical way and to support the tourism industry in his home country Namibia in its sustainable development:
I am passionate about sustainable development, and this project aligns perfectly with aiding the sustainable development of the Namibian tourism industry. As Namibia is the country I call home, it felt truly fulfilling.
